upbringing – a place to raise ideas – opens in Kingston, New York with an installation of artworks and objects focused around the theme of Presence by Zoë Buckman, Tamar Ettun, Nona Faustine, Qiana Mestrich, Cheryl Mukherji, Rebecca Reeve and Keisha Scarville.
Presence brings together specific works from each artist that are imbued with nostalgia, longing, and remembrance. There is a quiet unveiling—a call to discover and feel: the trace of hands, the presence of mothers, the spirit of ancestors and other worlds. At the heart of this exhibition is also the deeply missed presence of Nona Faustine, whose passing came far too soon. Her work, and the love she carried, continue to resonate—felt, honored, and held.
upbringing is also proud to become the official headquarters for Upstate Art Weekend, cementing its place as a vibrant and permanent fixture in the Hudson Valley’s creative community.
Presence: Friday June 6 – July 21, 2025
Open Tuesdays through Saturdays 10am -6pm, and will stay open later on Fridays.
